Minor Success Saturday

Hello!

Just a quick one to report a couple of minor journalism-related successes that have popped up today!

Firstly, Underground Magazine, a London-based satire magazine, has invited me to join its writers’ article discussion group, so I’ll get the chance to possibly have my own satirical pieces published if they like them enough.

SECONDLY, a travel journalism piece I uploaded to travel website simonseeks.com in 2009 came back into my consciousness today. I signed in, and was just clicking around my account when I stumbled upon a page revealing I’ve earnt £19 in commission, just from linking to the guesthouse I stayed at! Well, really I’ve made £38, but apparently it’s a 50/50 split between myself and the website. I know it’s not much, but the last time I looked at that article, it’d only had about 300 views, whereas now it’s nearly 2,000! I also had no idea about the moneymaking aspect, so that was a smashing surprise. In light of seeing how the Sandefjord article did, I’ve just submitted a Reykjavik article, and I’m also going to do Rome, Paris, London, Copenhagen and then Friedrichshafen. And potentially Dublin, I guess.

I really really want to go off somewhere else. I love being in other countries. Obviously, being a travel journalist would be the ultimate goal. Who WOULDN’T want to be paid to go to new places, and have the pleasure of writing about the experience? It’d be utterly ideal. I’d quite like to start writing book reviews too, and I might also review Sigur Rós’ new album when I get my grubby paws on it.

Anyway, I’m going to get on with enjoying this glorious three day weekend now, and I should really listen to the divine Marie Cartwright for some shorthand speed practise. Waheyyy!

Hi, I’m applying for a place at the 23rd International Youth Forum, the theme is Youth and the New Media, just thought you’d be interested. There’ll be delegates from all over the world, so if you’re interested here’s the link http://www.ncyok.or.kr/renew/eng/notice/notice/view.asp?boardcode=eng_notice&itemid=128767&page=1

    1. Whoaaa Korea, nice! Bet that’d be really cool, but sadly I have to move back to London around then for the last year of uni 😦 Hope you get a place though!
